Product description

During intense exercise, body temperature rises, especially on warm days or in crowded indoor venues. This is exactly where the Therabody CryoTherm Palm comes in: During short breaks, place your palms on the device to cool down targeted areas—no ice cubes, gel packs, or water hoses required. This makes it ideal for anyone who wants to take advantage of short breaks between sets, sprints, or game periods to cool down effectively.

Why cool your palms? How the CryoTherm Palm works

The palms contain special vascular connections called arteriovenous anastomoses. A large volume of blood flows through them just beneath the skin’s surface. When the palms are cooled, this blood releases heat and then flows back into the body. This makes the palms an effective area for cooling during short breaks from intense exercise.

The right temperature is essential. Very cold applications, such as ice, can cause the blood vessels in the skin to constrict, reducing heat release. That is why the CryoTherm Palm maintains a constant, moderate temperature of 8 to 16°C rather than becoming as cold as possible.

How to use the CryoTherm Palm during training

When:during set breaks, at halftime, during timeouts, hydration breaks, or when changing ends, as well as during interval, strength, and endurance training
How long:indoors, usually 1 to 3 minutes; outdoors or during a game, Therabody recommends 3 minutes. During longer breaks, you can use it for as long as the break allows
Preparation:In warm weather, switch on the device about 2 minutes before use so that it can reach the target temperature. The appropriate cooling level depends on the ambient temperature

The built-in timer displays the treatment time directly on the device. This keeps your smartphone in your pocket and ensures that the break remains the priority.

Cold, heat, or contrast

In addition to the cooling mode, the CryoTherm Palm offers a heat mode with settings of 37, 40, or 43°C, which can help keep your hands warm on chilly days or before training. In contrast mode, one side is cold and the other is warm, allowing you to switch flexibly between the two sensations.

Why cooling the palms is beneficial in sport

The palms are among the parts of the body through which a particularly large amount of heat is released. The CryoTherm Palm cools them from both sides and, in doing so, also cools the blood flowing back into the body from there. Unlike ice or cold packs, it maintains a constant temperature throughout the entire treatment.

FAQ

Does cooling down really help during sports?

During intense exercise and in hot conditions, body temperature rises, which can noticeably impair performance. Cooling during rest periods is therefore a common approach in competitive sports. Therabody has tested palm cooling in its own studies with athletes. However, the extent to which you personally benefit depends on the sport, exercise intensity, environment, and fitness level.

What is the most effective way to lower my body temperature during a workout?

Regular breaks, staying well hydrated, shade, and loose-fitting clothing have proven effective. The CryoTherm Palm complements this by allowing you to cool your palms during short breaks. At the first signs of overheating, such as dizziness, nausea, or headaches, stop the activity and seek medical attention if necessary. A cooling device is no substitute for this.

How long should I use the CryoTherm Palm?

Therabody recommends 1 to 3 minutes between sets or periods of exertion. Outdoors or during play, 3 minutes is advisable; during halftime or longer breaks, take as long as possible. The built-in stopwatch helps you keep track of the time.

Why not just use ice or a cold pack?

Ice and gel packs warm up quickly and are often very cold. Intense cold can cause the blood vessels in the skin to constrict, reducing heat transfer. In contrast, the CryoTherm Palm maintains a consistent, moderate temperature and requires neither a freezer nor a cooler.

How long does the battery last?

The battery lasts up to 60 minutes on a single charge, depending on the selected mode and setting. It charges via the included USB-C cable.
