My name is Dr. med. Philip Eckardt, and I was born in Hamburg on December 8, 1970. After stints in Switzerland, France, and the USA, I completed my Abitur in 1990 at the Josef Hofmiller Gymnasium in Freising. Following travels and service in the German Armed Forces, I embarked on the adventure of medicine at LMU and TU Munich. I passed the 3rd state examination in 1999 and received my medical license, but I was unsure whether I should remain in medicine.
It was not until I discovered manual medicine and osteopathy "at the last second" that a medical path opened up for me, leading to training at the Karl-Sell-Ärzteseminar and the German-American Academy for Osteopathy. In 2003, during a visit to New Zealand with Dr. Allan Phillips DO, I found my definitive intellectual home: functional neurology.
Since then, I have been treating my patients and teaching my students using this form of medical perspective and way of thinking. To this end, I founded a private medical practice in 2003 and the German Institute for Neurological Integration in 2004, which has operated under the name Neurolog Akademie since 2009. Neuro-functional medicine can close a huge gap in medicine: the gap in the treatment of functional disorders, from which, according to a commentary in the British Medical Journal, all patients suffer without there being any concrete examination and treatment methods for them—until now.
22 years of training and having my nose permanently in countless books and studies, coupled with thousands of patient treatments, have led to a systematization of neuro-functional examination and treatment in the form of the neuro-functional integration system. I have supplemented functional neurology with courses by Eric Cobb DC, which I attended in Copenhagen and Malmö from 2016 to 2019. His form of exercises and training represents a wonderful addition to the technique of neuro-functional integration.
In order to also do justice to patients biochemically in practice, I have also been conducting detailed laboratory examinations for ten years to improve nutrition or metabolism via dietary supplements.
